Our Vision: The Four Ps
The East Riding Food Poverty Alliance (ERFPA) works collaboratively to ensure that every resident has access to affordable, nutritious food and the opportunity to thrive.
We believe that food poverty is not just about hunger — it is about income, dignity, health, opportunity and community. Our approach goes beyond crisis response, focusing on prevention, long-term solutions and meaningful involvement of people with lived experience.
Our work is guided by The Four Ps:
Prevention
We work to stop people falling into crisis in the first place.
This means helping residents maximise their income and build financial resilience through early intervention, advice, skills development and support with benefits, debt, housing and employment. By acting early and addressing the root causes of hardship, we aim to reduce the need for emergency food support.
Protection
We ensure people are supported when they need it most.
When individuals and families face hardship, ERFPA members provide emergency food, essential household items and wrap-around support in safe, welcoming spaces. We work together to make sure no one is left without food, warmth or basic necessities, while also helping people access the wider support they need to stabilise their situation.
Pathways
We support people to move forward and out of poverty.
ERFPA helps create pathways into skills, training, employment and digital inclusion. By connecting people to opportunities and removing barriers, we support long-term independence and enable residents to build more secure, sustainable futures for themselves and their families.
Participation
We believe lived experience must shape the solutions.
People with lived experience of poverty are central to our work. We are committed to reducing social isolation, strengthening community connections and ensuring residents have real influence over decisions that affect their lives. By working alongside communities, we build trust, empower voices and create stronger, more inclusive places.
Working Together
Through partnership, compassion and collective action, the East Riding Food Poverty Alliance is committed to tackling food poverty with dignity — ensuring that no one in the East Riding has to face hardship alone.
