Holidaymakers staying at Southcliffe Holiday Park in Bridlington are being given the opportunity to leave a little kindness behind, with a food collection point helping to support local people experiencing food insecurity.
The collection point is part of a wider food donation initiative delivered by the East Riding Food Poverty Alliance (ERFPA) in collaboration with East Riding of Yorkshire Council, which began in December 2025.
The initiative was initially launched across East Riding leisure centres, libraries and customer service centres, providing convenient locations for residents to donate surplus, unopened food to help people in their local communities.
The project also includes Southcliffe Holiday Park in Bridlington, giving holidaymakers the opportunity to donate any suitable food they have left at the end of their stay.
Holidaymakers often have food left over when their holiday comes to an end. Rather than taking it home, leaving it in their accommodation or throwing it away, visitors at Southcliffe can now donate it when they hand in their key.
Donations must be:
- Unopened
- In date
- Non-perishable
Suggested donations include cereal, cereal bars, tins, pasta, pasta sauces, rice, snack pot noodles, biscuits, crisps and other unopened store cupboard foods.
All food donated at Southcliffe Holiday Park will be collected by The Hinge Centre in Bridlington, which operates a food bank and affordable food store supporting local residents who are struggling with the cost of living.
Working together to reduce food waste and food poverty
The initiative brings together businesses, public services and community organisations to tackle two important issues: food waste and food poverty.
By providing convenient donation points in places people already visit, the project makes it easier for residents and visitors to donate food that they no longer need, ensuring it can be put to good use within the local community.
The addition of Southcliffe Holiday Park also demonstrates how the initiative can reach beyond traditional community settings and engage visitors to the East Riding in supporting local communities during their stay.
ERFPA is delighted to be working alongside East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Southcliffe Holiday Park and The Hinge Centre to make a difference to local residents.
A small donation can go a long way. A packet of cereal, a tin of food or a packet of biscuits that you no longer need could help someone in your local community.
If you have unopened, in-date, non-perishable food left over from your holiday, simply drop it off when you return your key at Southcliffe Holiday Park.
