Free Recipe Packs Distributed to Support Healthy Home Cooking

In October, two East Riding community organisations teamed up with the East Riding Food Poverty Alliance (ERFPA) to provide free sausage casserole recipe packs to local residents — helping families cook simple, nutritious meals at home.

A total of 120 recipe packs were distributed, with 60 packs handed out at Hedon Community Food Bank and another 60 at The Hinge Centre in Bridlington. Each pack contained all the ingredients needed to make a hearty sausage casserole that serves up to four people, along with an easy-to-follow recipe card.

At Hedon Community Food Bank, the packs were given out as an additional free offering to existing food bank clients, providing extra support during the autumn months. Meanwhile, representatives from East Riding Food Poverty Alliance (ERFPA) attended The Hinge Centre’s Community Conversation event in Bridlington, where they distributed the packs to residents who took part in the event.

The initiative was funded by The Albert Hunt Trust and the CHCP Foundation, whose continued support enables local organisations to help people access healthy, affordable food.

“The recipe packs not only offer extra food to those who need it most, but also encourage people to try cooking wholesome meals at home,” said a spokesperson for ERFPA. “Simple recipes like sausage casserole show that tasty, filling meals can be made easily and cheaply, even on a tight budget.”

The project forms part of ongoing efforts across East Yorkshire to tackle food insecurity, promote healthy eating, and build community resilience through practical support and education.

In November ERFPA will be handing out recipe packs at the following locations

W/C 10th November Two Rivers Community Pantry – Slow cooker sausage casserole

Friday 14th November The Hinge – Mango Chicken
