A brand-new Pop-Up Pantry has opened at Eastrington Village Hall, aiming to make food more accessible and affordable for residents in rural East Yorkshire. The project is proudly funded by the Two Ridings Community Foundation and supported by the East Riding Food Poverty Alliance, a partnership working to tackle food insecurity across the region.

This new initiative provides a selection of store cupboard staples, household cleaning items and personal hygiene products items at low cost, helping families in rural communities access essential food supplies without having to travel long distances. By offering value far beyond typical supermarket prices, the pantry supports both affordability and dignity.
“Rural isolation and rising food costs are putting pressure on many households,” said one of the organisers. “We are not a food bank. The service we provide is not a handout, but a hand up for those that are struggling. With the support of Two Ridings we’re building something that offers real relief — and brings people together.”
Importantly, the Eastrington Pop-Up Pantry is just the beginning. Plans are underway to expand into Blacktoft and Gilberdyke, bringing this vital service to even more rural areas in need.
Residents who would like to join the pantry or volunteer are encouraged to visit Eastrington Village Hall or connect with the project team through local community networks.
Together, with community support and collaborative partnerships, East Riding is taking positive steps toward food security for all.
