Youth Parliament representative, George Jackson, hopes to bring better quality food to schools

George’s manifesto is to bring better quality, healthy food, with more choice for young people in schools. George said: “[…]I really want to encourage young people to eat healthy food, so that they live healthier lives, and it will help reduce the pressure on the NHS in the future.”

To get a better understanding of what food support is available across the East Riding, George visited Two Rivers Community Pantry, based in Goole. Along with a tour of the Social Supermarket, George helped prepare free emergency food parcels that are available for vulnerable people to collect who are facing food poverty or insecurity.

George discussed his ideas of encouraging healthy and sustainable eating to other young people, and even made suggestions on how the food bank could be improved for it’s service users. Linda Harris, service manager, stated that ‘it is fantastic to see young people getting involved in improving their local community.’
