The SHoRes Centre have had a busy few months, with the launch of three new projects; FResH (Food Rescue Hub), DASH (Digital Access Skills Hub) and a pop up pantry aboard the Education bus as part of the Multiply project.
FResH is an excellent new initiative at SHoRes, that aims to save food from going to landfill. The purpose of FResH is to break down catering packs into smaller manageable portions, in a safe and controlled environment, to then be used as part of the Shores Community Pantry offer. All food is sealed and labelled with dates and allergens, ensuring that it is fresh and safe to eat. The project has been funded by East Riding of Yorkshire Council Do It For East Yorkshire Community Grant, and will allow more affordable food to be available to the residents in Withernsea.
The SHoRes also launched DASH, their new digital access skills hub with a day long festival #Dashfest. DASH intends to break down barriers and empower individuals to explore and develop their digital capabilities.
Shores CEO Jayne Nendick said: “With an increasing amount of our lives spent online, it is important that we help to bridge gaps in knowledge and finances to help everyone have access to the digital skills and technology that they need. “Through our DASH projects we are aiming to develop skills at both an entry level and, thanks to recent investment and expansion, a more advanced and creative level. Ultimately, we want to give people access to new technologies which we hope will inspire an appetite for learning and creativity – particularly through our creative studio and planned ‘fab lab’ which could ultimately pave the way for career and business opportunities.”
The Shores Community Pantry also ran a trial pop up pantry project on the East Riding of Yorkshire Council education bus in Hornsea each week over the summer.
The pop up pantry was part of the SHoRes Skills For Life Multiply project. Interested residents could sign up to the Multiply project and receive a £15 voucher to spend upon the bus. There was a fantastic variety of toiletries available to purchase with the voucher.
The team challenge participants to spend the £15 voucher, not a penny less and not a penny more, encouraging them to use their mathematical abilities.
