New Project Fights Food Poverty in the East Riding

East Riding Food Poverty Alliance Launches ‘Heat the Person’ Project to Keep Residents Warm This Winter

The East Riding Food Poverty Alliance is taking action to support residents through the colder months with the launch of its ‘Heat the Person’ project. Thanks to funding from East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the Household Support Fund, Alliance members have been able to purchase essential items designed to keep people warm during the winter season.

The initiative focuses on providing direct support to individuals who may struggle with heating their homes, ensuring they have the necessary resources to stay warm and well. Items such as heated gilets, thermal hoodies, and cosy packs have been distributed to those in need across the region.

The ‘Heat the Person’ project aligns with the Alliance’s mission to combat food and fuel poverty, recognising that staying warm is just as critical as having access to nutritious food. By equipping residents with warm clothing and accessories, the project aims to reduce the risk of cold-related illnesses and improve overall well-being.

“We understand that for many people, the rising cost of living has made it difficult to afford heating. This initiative allows us to provide immediate, practical support to help residents stay warm and comfortable over the winter months.”

The project is being delivered in collaboration with local community groups and charities, ensuring that support reaches those who need it most. Residents experiencing difficulties with heating their homes are encouraged to contact their local food poverty alliance member for more information on how to access support.
